America loves Gabby Douglas. The 16-year-old gymnast from Virginia played a key role in winning the first Olympic gold medal for the United States women's gymnastics team for the first time since 1996. She also made history by becoming the first African American woman to win a gold medal in the Individual All-Around competition. Millions tuned in to see Gabby win on that Thursday night, but on any given Thursday night Gabby herself can be found watching one of her favorite shows - The Vampire Diaries.
Following a congratulatory tweet from Michael Trevino (who stars as Tyler Lockwood), Gabby responded by tweeting that The Vampire Diaries was her "FAV show."
Stars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Candice Accola also tweeted Gabby:
Even Executive Producer Julie Plec congratulated the winner, and hinted at the possibility of a guest role for the Olympian:
All in all, it was a great showing of mutual respect and admiration. The cast even recorded a video for Gabby, wishing her and the rest of her teammates good luck. No word yet on when Gabby may be available, but the new season of The Vampire Diaries begins airing Thursday, October 11th on the CW Austin.
