AUSTIN (TheCWAustin) - With the stage set for Super Bowl XLIV, Souper Bowl of Caring Central Texas, led by grocers H-E-B and Randall's Food Markets: KXAN Austin News and The CW Austin, is working with 125 area churches and schools to transform Super Bowl weekend into a time of unprecedented giving and serving.
Campaign leaders have set a goal of raising 500,000 pounds of food for the Capital Area Food Bank, which serves nearly 355 hunger-relief agencies in 21 Central Texas counties.
The food drive will kick off on Jan. 7, 2010, at Randall's Food Markets and St. Ignatius Catholic School and run through Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010. During this time, customers can purchase a pre-packaged food bag to donate or make a cash donation at one of more than 57 participating H-E-B or Randall's grocery stores.
In addition, close to 90 local churches and schools will conduct food and donation drives. A goal has been set to raise 500,000 in dollars and pounds of food.
Proceeds will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, with serves nearly 355 Partner Agencies in 21 Central Texas counties.
The Souper Bowl of Caring is a nationwide, grassroots movement of caring utilizing Super Bowl weekend to mobilize youth to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities.
Kick Off for in-store activities is Jan. 7, 2010 from 5 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at Randall's on 10900-D Research Blvd., Austin, Texas 78759.
Community kick-off is planned for Jan. 7, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic School located at 120 West Oltorf St., Austin, Texas 78704.
